What’s A London Fog Latte?
It’s a blend of earl grey tea (assam black tea) which has been infused with bergamot oil. There’s no coffee in this latte, but there is caffeine in tea leaves. You might also see it being called an earl grey latte.
It’s served with milk, a sweetener, and sometimes a sprinkling of lavender buds for the aesthetics, but also because lavender pairs perfectly with earl grey. It can also be served iced. Check out my iced version of the London fog latte.
Bergamot is a bit of an acquired taste, and I wasn’t always a fan of a London fog latte. This is a very aromatic drink, and I’ve grown to love it, in fact – I’m obsessed.
Ingredients
So what ingredients do you need to make this delicious and soothing beverage?
- Earl grey tea leaves (I prefer this loose leaf tea but teabags work too. This is my favorite teabag brand.)
- 2% milk or preferred milk (I’ve tested with non-dairy milk, and the one I prefer is coconut milk)
- Boiling water
- Honey or other sweeteners like homemade simple syrup, lavender syrup, maple syrup, etc
- Optional vanilla extract (I’m not a fan of vanilla in my earl grey but friends love it!)
- Dried lavender buds (culinary grade)
I love drinking this when it’s chilly outside. It has a smooth boost of caffeine for the tea leaves and a calming effect with the added lavender buds.

Directions
Let’s go over how to make this London fog latte so you can be sipping and enjoying too!
- Add tea leaves to a cup with a strainer or a tea ball infuser or use teabags. Pour the boiling water over the leaves and let it step for 3 minutes.
- Heat the milk over medium-high heat in a heavy bottom saucepan. Whisk the milk constantly so it doesn’t scald. Whisking the milk creates froth, or use a hand held milk frother for extra foam.
- Once boiled, take the milk off the heat. Discard the tea leaves. Add honey to the tea and stir.
- Pour the milk and foam over the tea. Sprinkle on dried lavender buds. Serve right away and enjoy!
