A Valentine’s Day cookie box is the ultimate gift of love! Why is that? Because baking is a great expression of love no matter who you bake for. Although a cookie box may seem “simple” it takes a lot of planning!

What Can I Fill The Box With?
You can choose any of your favorite cookies to bake for your Valentine’s Day cookie box. This post shows an all cookie box but you don’t even have to stick to cookies! You could try a variety of desserts like brown butter rice krispie treats cut out in heart shapes with a cookie cutter or delicious chocolate covered strawberries.
How To Choose The Cookies
If you’re like me (Type A), you can grab pen and paper and write down all your cookie ideas. I suggest sketching it out if that helps! Here’s some things to consider when planning.
Start by thinking about different cookie flavors and textures. Imagine the recipient opening the box and seeing an assortment of cookies to try! The variety of flavors means there’s something for everyone as well as looking eye-catching.
An important consideration is to choose a variety of different sized cookies! The different shapes make the box look interesting but it will also help you fill in the gaps. If you use all large cookies, then it’s harder to fill the small spaces. A variety of cookie sizes will make the cookie box look special.
Think about the variety of colors. For example, if you have all brown cookies then the box may look a little bland. Having different colors make the box pretty and interesting.

Planning Ahead (it really helps)
Making a cookie box takes time and effort so planning out a baking schedule really helps. This way you won’t get overwhelmed and give up!
The best way to approach making a Valentine’s Day cookie box is to break down the process over a few days. It will depend on how many cookies you’re going to bake, my suggestion is 6-7 types of cookies. I suggest baking 2-3 cookie recipes per day.
Another BIG thing to consider is how many cookie boxes you’re making and how many cookies you’ll need. Each cookie recipe yields different amounts, so you have to do some math. For example, my soft cherry almond cookie recipe makes 16 cookies. If I wanted to make 4 cookie boxes with 8 soft cherry almond cookies in each box, I’d need to double the recipe.
This is why planning ahead is so helpful! You can write a list of the ingredients you need, and get a better understanding of how long it will take you.
Baking Schedule
For my Valentine’s Day cookie box, I made 1 box and used 6 different recipes. Here’s how my schedule went:
- Day 1: Stuffed Red Velvet Cream Cheese Cookies and Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies
- I started with the stuffed red velvet cream cheese cookies which requires chilling time. While the cream cheese filling is in the freezer, I made the red velvet crinkle cookies because they don’t require chilling time!
- Day 2: Fudgy Brownie Cookies and Marbled Heart Sugar Cookies
- Fudgy brownie cookies don’t require any chilling time!
- I choose to use the royal icing marble method to decorate sugar cookies because dipping cookies in icing is much faster than piping onto them!
- Day 3: Matcha White Chocolate Raspberry Cookies and Soft Cherry Almond Cookies
- Matcha cookies don’t require any chilling time
- Soft cherry almond cookies are super easy to make (just need 1 bowl!)
Baking Ahead (Freezing)
If you want to break up the process even further, you can always bake cookies and freeze them! Make sure to check each recipe for instructions on freezing. Some cookies might not be best for freezing, so always double check!
Make sure to store the cookies correctly in your freezer to avoid freezer burn or stale tasting cookies. I recommend storing in freezer safe bags or freezer safe containers. Just a reminder, in order to store cookies, you’ll need a good amount of space in your freezer.
I like to keep cookies in separate freezer bags especially if they’re strong flavors.
Packaging
The box that you present the cookies in is just as important as the cookies themselves! If you really want to make a statement, these heart shaped boxes are so cute and best of all – sturdy. I choose the pink color because I love pink, but it comes in a beautiful red and white colors too. There are only 2 boxes, one medium and one large. I used the large box in all of the images featured in this blog post.
If you are making multiple cookie boxes and don’t want to buy the heart boxes, I recommend these square white bakery boxes. The window let’s someone see what’s inside the box and they look professional!
Let’s Put Together The Valentine’s Day Cookie Boxes!

#1: Make sure to take out any frozen cookies to thaw in the refrigerator overnight. I like to place all the cookies onto a baking tray so that everything stays organized!

#2: Start by lining the heart box with parchment paper. This makes the box look cute and adds to the presentation but it also helps protects the cookies from moving around too much.
#3: Add the largest cookies into the box first, and then fill in the gaps with any smaller cookies. You’re done! Assembling is the easy part! You can tie the box with ribbon or add bows if you’d like.
