Halloween Bucket List

Halloween is a beloved holiday by many, and is often celebrated for the whole month of October! Think pumpkins, crunchy fall leaves, crisp weather, the sun setting earlier, and your favorite Halloween movies.

Sometimes there’s so many events that you want to plan but it can be hard to keep track of them all! This Halloween bucket list can help you plan your spooky month or give you inspiration of things to do.

If you’re not as into horror and gore, then this list is for you! Here at Midwest & Wonder, we celebrate more of a cute Halloween aesthetic so if that’s your thing, read on!

Halloween Bucket List Ideas

  1. Decorate your room/home for Halloween: Hang up your favorite spooky season decorations in your house or your room. Try addingย warm toned string lights to your space to create a warmer and cozier atmosphere.
  1. Buy cute Halloween cookies or treats: Head to a local cafe that sells bakery treats for Halloween. I love our local bakery which always makes cute Halloween sugar cookies! Also anything pumpkin, apple, caramel, or maple flavored as just as tasty.
  1. Buy Halloween themed bath bombs: Ever since I discovered Witch Baby Soap, I’ve been obsessed. The witchy vibes, the bath bombs, the unique scents. If you’re into supporting small businesses and taking relaxing baths, check this shop out!
  1. Go to a pumpkin patch and pick out pumpkins: Plan a day with friends or a loved one to head to a pumpkin patch! Get dressed up (because I’m sure there will be a photo-op) and spend the day picking the best pumpkin. Don’t forget to grab a drink or treat from the bakery and enjoying such a fun fall tradition.
  1. Carve a Jack-o’-lantern: If you went to the pumpkin patch (see above) now you can get creative! If you don’t have a chance to pick pumpkins at a patch, don’t worry – there’s plenty at grocery stores. Try craving a new design! You can always look at Pinterest for inspiration.
  1. Watch Halloween movies or shows: Here at M&W, we like things a little more cute and a little less horror. Check out this list of 31 not so spooky Halloween movies to watch. This blog post also includes ways to set up a movie night and make it extra special.
  1. Plan your costume: If you need a costume this year, now’s the time to start planning! Check Pinterest for inspiration and try to DIY it with things that you already have at home.
  1. Attend a Halloween event: Look out for Halloween events in your area! Think pumpkin nights, events at breweries or restaurants, and other Halloween themed parties.

  1. Bake pumpkin treats: ‘Tis the season for pumpkin which means baking all of the pumpkin desserts! Try my soft pumpkin cookies with cream cheese icing recipe (think muffin top texture paired with the best cream cheese icing, YUM). Or try these mini pumpkin cheesecakes with a delicious buttery graham cracker crust. Or if you’re not into baking something too sweet, then my pumpkin bread recipe is for you! Bake for yourself or share the spirit of this season with friends or family.
  1. Start a spooky book series: As the nights get longer and the air chillier, now is the perfect time to start a book series that’s perfect for Halloween. My current favorites are the Noodle Shop Mystery series by Vivian Chien, and the Comfort Cakes Cozy Mysteries by Nancy McGovern.
  1. Go on a haunted hayride or ghost tour: Plan a spooky night with friends and go on a haunted hayride! This bucket list item can be scarier which is why it’s lot of fun to go with your besties.
  1. Go for a night walk: When the sun sets head outside and walk around your block to appreciate the quietness of the night (depending on where you live). Try inviting someone with you to enjoy the brisk air and get in a healthy post-dinner stroll.
  1. Make a fall themed drink or mocktail: These pumpkin glasses are so cute and inspired this bucket list idea. Make a yummy apple cider cocktail (ice, 2 oz bourbon, 2 oz apple cider, 2 oz ginger beer, squeeze of lemon). Or make this into a mocktail by omitting the alcohol. Add a cinnamon stick and a few sliced apples to garnish. Drinking a fun drink out of a themed glass is a simple way to romanticize the season.
  1. Paint ghost art: Try painting ghost art either by yourself or with a friend. Gather your favorite paints, blank canvases, brushes, water, and newspaper. Make sure to get some snacks and maybe put on a spooky movie. You can search for inspiration on Pinterest (that’s where we found these designs).
  1. Plan a haunted gingerbread competition: Last Halloween I found haunted gingerbread house kits at Trader Joe’s and we had a competition based on who could decorate the best one! It was a lot of fun and a great twist on traditional gingerbread houses.
