I’m the creator behind Midwest & Wonder. Growing up in the Chicagoland area meant hot summers running through sprinklers, crunchy fall leaves, cold winters with soft glittery snow, and the Earthy wet smell of spring. The midwest is a beautiful place that shaped me and my love of baking.

I have to give credit to the amazing support system that always encouraged me to try new things. It drove me to improve my baking skills, find confidence in cake decorating, study photography, and learn how to build a website.

I always think about my tiny corner of the Internet. What do I want you, the reader, to take away? I hope I can be a safe place with cozy vibes and nice pictures to look at. I’d like to give you a sense of “I can do it too!” Looking at the world with wonder takes a lot of courage but don’t forget that we’re in it together.

Behind the blog

How It Started

I started working in a commerical bakery where I learned a lot of basics. My co-worker asked me to decorate bee themed baby shower sugar cookies. Next thing I knew, I had people I’d never met before asking me if I was available for business.

It was an amazing experience to be a huge part of people’s special occasions. That experience challenged me to improve my baking and decorating skills and I will be forever grateful for it.

As time went on, I started creating my own recipes and realized I could still share with others even if I’m no longer baking for them.

Currently using my canon 70d (I’ve had this for YEARS) with a 50mm lens and 100mm lens. I also use my Android which has camera options like expert RAW mode. I’m saving up to buy a new camera ๐Ÿ™‚

I no longer take custom orders.

Midwest because I was born and raised here. It has so much to offer and I don’t think it gets enough recognition. It’s shaped me and how I bake. Wonder because I’ve always enjoyed romanticizing the little things. I look for beauty in the tiniest of flowers.
