11 Realistic Ways To Reset For A Cozy Fall
During the summer we find lots of reasons to be out and about. There’s an energy in the air that makes us willing to take on more, plan more, especially with the longer nights.
Suddenly, we check our calendars and August is giving way to September. The transition of summer to fall has begun and some of us find this exciting while others are hesitant.
During this transition into fall, I’ve been both excited and filled with dread (because here in Chicago we know what follows fall….). I wrote this realistic fall reset with both perspectives in mind, that the transition to fall for some is joyous and for some it’s felt with anxiety.
Wherever you fall, creating small routines can be exciting and comforting. Read below for 11 realistic ways to reset for a cozy fall.

11 Realistic Ways To Reset For A Cozy Fall
1. Try On All Your Clothes
If you’re scrolling social media, especially Pinterest, you’ll probably come across fall outfit inspiration. Before you put a new outfit in your cart, do a fall cleaning.
Dedicate a day to cleaning your closet! It sounds like a pain but it will potentially save you time and money. Try on your fall clothes and see if you forgot about anything you bought the previous year. Then, when you have a good idea of what you already own, you can head to the store.

2. a Morning Drink Ritual
Picture a cool fall morning, beautiful changing leaves, and a warm mug with your favorite drink. Take a pause to think about how you usually make your morning cup. Can you make it a little more special for fall?
Try creating a cozy morning routine by:
- switching out your mug for your favorite fall mug
- slow down and be present when making your drink so you create a morning ritual instead of something to speed through
- put on a cozy fall playlist – check out my cozy fall cafe playlist
- try a new drink or spice up a current favorite
- a latte with a sprinkle of cinnamon
- make homemade vanilla syrup
- homemade chai
- warmed apple cider
- steep a new tea
A morning drink ritual doesn’t have to be complicated! This 5-10 minutes out of your morning is for you to look forward to and have a comforting start to your day.

3. Decorate your home
Make your space feel cozy by adding decorations. I don’t know about you, but one reason why I love living with the seasons is because they change. The decorations change, the flavors, holidays, and baking all come with new and old traditions. The home can be a wonderful place to honor this change. You don’t have to go all out and buy expensive decorations either.
Here is a list of ideas of ways to decorate for the season:
- warm copper string lights add such a cozy feeling (I’ve bought these three times for three different rooms!)
- collect things from outside like leaves, pinecones, or flowers that can be dried and added to a vase or centerpiece
- make your own paper chain decorations! This DIY paper pumpkin chain uses construction paper is so cute!
- get a cozy throw that can be used each fall season
- decorate with dried pampas grass, the texture of the dried grass adds a charming fall touch
4. Create a fall bucket list
Write a list of all the things you want to do this fall! I have monthly bucket lists if you need some inspiration. You can divide your lists by month or create one big fall list! My favorite way to make bucket lists is using good ol’ pen and paper so I can cross them out or date when I did the activity. It’s a fun way to plan things to look forward!
5. Creative Reset
Try a new hobby, craft, or creative project that’s just for fun. You don’t have to be good at it! Try watercolor, baking something new, photography, crocheting, journaling, pressing flowers, or making a fall scrapbook. A new season might just be the creative inspiration that you’re looking for to create a reset for the mind and body.
6. Digital Reset
Just like the term spring cleaning, let’s also do a fall cleaning. There’s lots of ways to clean things up, including the media that you consume. Unfollow accounts that don’t align with you, clean up your camera roll, turn off unnecessary notifications, remove yourself from email lists you don’t read, and try choosing one evening a week to stay off your phone.

7. reset with nature
Fall is a beautiful time here in the Midwest! We finally get a break from the heat and humidity and we do our best to make the most of it. Spend more time outside before the weather gets too cold (depending on where you live).
Not sure what to do? Take a walk somewhere to admire nature’s changes, visit a farmers market, go apple or pumpkin picking, watch the sunset, collect fallen leaves, or sit outside with a warm drink at a cafe or your porch. It’s amazing what spending time outdoors can do for the mind and boy. This is my favorite fall reset activity!

8. Update your night routine
As the days get shorter, make your evening routine feel cozier. We don’t have to completely reset your current routine, just tweak it a little.
Turn off overhead lights and use warm lighting, put on a matching pajama set, make tea, read before bed, light a candle, stretch, play a cozy game, or take a bath with fall themed bath bombs.
When it comes to skincare, you really don’t need a 12-step skincare routine to feel your best. Try to reset your routine by learning exactly what your skin needs in a colder season. Try applying your skincare in mood lighting to make it more self-care and less of a task.
When you create a night routine that focuses on slowing down and enjoying what you’re doing, your nervous system can embrace the earlier dark evenings!
9. Make Plans To Look Forward to
At beginning of each fall month, dedicate time to go over your planner or calendar. The beginning of the month is a reset in itself, perfect for looking over everything in the weeks to come. Dedicating time to mapping this out can make the rest of the month feel more organized.
Sometimes the seasons slip away and then were asking ourselves, why didn’t I ever make it to the pumpkin patch? Jokes aside – although I really did think that – planning ahead can help you stay organized when checking things off your fall bucket list.

10. Create a Book List
Choose a handful of books you want to read this season and make a list. They don’t have to be fall themed, they can be anything that you’re interested in. A new book list is perfect for a new season.
11. Get a fall pajama set
I do indeed think that wearing a fall themed pajama set makes going to bed more fun. Pajama sets feel cozy and put together although it really takes no effort at all. Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the whole Peanuts crew have slowly become the face of fall. Peanuts prints are on everything! I’m so happy to see the Snoopy prints in cute pajama sets!
A fall reset doesn’t mean spending lots of money on new things, changing your current routine in a big way, or needing to stay on top of trends. Small changes are meant to help you feel more excited or comforted about the season ahead.
